Clinical outcomes of vestibuloplasty with implementation of a comprehensive medical rehabilitation programin patients with local soft tissue deficiencyof the oral cavity: a case-control study
ORIGINAL PAPERS
Abstract
Introduction. Currently, there is an increase in oral pathologies in adults and children, which leads to an increase in the prevalence of surgical interventions in oral cavity. Therefore, the task of testing, developing and implementing comprehensive methods of dental rehabilitation is relevant. The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between complications after vestibuloplasty surgery and the applied program of planning and therapeutic and restorative treatment. Materials and methods. The study involved 281 patients, men and women aged 18 to 76 years, who underwent vestibuloplasty for tooth recession in the lower and upper jaws. Volunteers were divided into two groups: “control” (n=176, vestibuloplasty without digital planning, photobiotherapy and medicinal electrophoresis of Fermencol gel) and “cases” (n=105, vestibuloplasty with digital planning using Sulfacrylate glue, photobiotherapy, Fermencol gel, normobaric hyperoxytherapy). All volunteers were assessed for bleeding within the first three days, difficulty eating, inflammation at the donor and recipient sites, and postoperative bleeding. These parameters were compared using the Pearson chisquare test by calculating the odds ratio (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results. When using the proposed recovery program, bleeding is less common in the first three days after surgery (OR 0.11; 95% CI 0.05–0.22; p <0.0001), the likelihood of difficulty eating is lower (OR 0.32; 95% CI 0.19–0.54; p <0.0001), the frequency of inflammation in the donor (OR 0.19; 95% CI 0.09–0.38; p <0.0001) and recipient sites (OR 0.19; 95% CI 0.10–0.34; p <0.0001) is lower, and postoperative bleeding is less common (OR 0.05; 95% CI 0.02–0.11; p <0.0001). Conclusions. The studied algorithm can be recommended for complex restorative treatment in patients undergoing vestibuloplasty.
