PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE FORMATION OF INSULIN RESISTANCE IN WOMEN WITH POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME
Abstract
The article presents the results of literature data analysis about the main developing mechanisms of insulin resistance in women with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). According to various scientific studies, the prevalence of PCOS is 53% among women with endocrine pathology. Due to contemporal data, PCOS is considered in the context of endocrine pathologies as a complex of hyperandrogenism, obesity, insulin resistance, disturbance of the regularity of the menstrual cycle, infertility. Many factors are associated with the formation of insulin resistance in women with PCOS. The main factors are: “mitochondrial dysfunction” and its relation to oxidative stress which contributes to the formation of insulin resistance and metabolic disorders in mitochondria. The influence of hyperandrogenism on carbohydrate and adipose metabolism and the relation of hyperandrogenia and hyperinsulinemia are discussed.
